After sending out a call on Twitter for some ideas of what to do with all our bourbon, our college friend and cocktail aficionado Jack suggested a couple recipes, including this one. Jack has hosted some delightful cocktail parties and was long the only other person who could make a negroni, so I trusted his judgement and shook up a couple.
This eponymous variation on a stiletto is from one of the first bars in Philadelphia to embrace the cocktail resurgence. The Five Spot also had swing dancing that we went to a couple of times; it was there that I had my first negroni from a professional bartender. The citrus of the Cointreau and lime cut the sweetness and heaviness of the bourbon and amaretto.
