Whiskey Sour

Marsha Wirtel, Hot Water Bath

This was my first ever whisky sour. In a fit of nostalgia I decided to try one as a way of remembering a dear friend, long since passed. Whisky sours were her drink of choice way back on our 90s-era post-college years ("....and don't be stingy with the cherries!") but I'd never joined her, preferring in those days Sex on a Beach and other such — in retrospect — ridiculous concoctions. I think she may have been on to something, though, because this is a very nice classic cocktail.

  • 2 oz whisky (don't use the good stuff, try a basic blend)
  • 2/3 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 t. confectioner's or super fine sugar
  • maraschino cherries to taste

Blend the first three ingredients and add the cherries for garnish. Remember, don't be stingy with the cherries. Add as many as you think you can get away with and then add at least one more.
