The right way to do things

There is a right way to do things, and we do them that way.

Mom believed this. Grandmom believed this. Everyone in my family believes this. Things get done the right way, or not at all.

Grandmom was meticulous in everything she did; after vacuuming, she would carefully dust (not vacuum) the exposed floorboards, getting into the corners. Her spitz Christmas trees had a silver dragée on the top for the star, three chocolate jimmies arranged on the root of the tree, and multicolored non-pareils sprinkled for ornaments. Mom won awards for her arrangements at the Philadelphia Flower show. My aunt sewed wedding dresses for each of her three daughters.

In my own life, this means frequent rants about bad web sites and poorly tested code. It's why I concentrate on the front end, having the computer do the work, and making work easier, faster and more accurate for my users.

The recipe: Vanilla wreaths

A spritz variation. So cute with nonpareils!

The craft: Woven Swedish stars

More involved than many of the crafts I post, but so lovely.
